Preached by Pastor Dr. Autry Williams
2 Timothy 2:15
The bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the joy of believers.
When it comes to the Word of God, first of all, we need to know it. You can’t know it without spending some time reading it, then you have to read it again, then again, then again and again, you must study it and keep on studying it, it’s a lifelong study.
Text Outline:
Know It
Stow It
Show It
Sow It
Know It
When it comes to the word of God, first of all, we need to know it. You don’t have any
choice! It’s just not possible to stow it, show it and sow it, if you don’t know it! When it
comes to the word of God, we are not to twist it, bend it, or break it in pieces. Instead, we
are to rightly divide it.
You must study the word of God in order to know the word of God.
If you notice, verse 15 starts off with the word, ‘study’. By studying it, you set your heart upon it. We are to study the Word of God to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.
God’s Word contains light to direct you, food to sustain you, and joy to comfort you. So study
God’s word and know it.
Stow It
When it comes to the word of God once you know it, you must retain it. And you retain it
when you stow it in your mind and in your heart.
Stowing the word of God is just as important as knowing the Word.
That’s because once you stow it, then God’s word becomes portable. You don’t have to
carry around a big family bible to have the Word of God with you. So I encourage you to
stow it, so when you’re out and about dealing with some of the issues we face in our daily
lives you’ll have instant access to God’s word.
Show It
Once you know it, and stow it, it’s now time for you to show it in your walk.
Sometimes the world will tell us church folks that your actions speak so loud that I don’t
hear a word you’re saying. If we act one way at church and another way when we’re
away from church, then we’ll find ourselves confusing people. Believe me they’re
watching us.
As believer’s our conduct and behavior is on constant display, we show it. So knowing
this, we should act like we are God's children and continue to grow to be Christ-like by
what we know and stow. And when we know it, stow it then we should show it.
Sow It
Now that we know it, stow it and show it, it’s time for us to sow it.
Matthew 28:19-20 says: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the
end of the world. Amen.”
The starting place for us to begin sowing the word of God is with our family.
Have you ever try to sow the word of God into the children in your family?
I would like to remind you today, that when it comes to the word of God, each and every one of us, need to: know it, stow it, show it and sow it.
